Exercise
Breaking up sitting every half hour
Sitting 8+ hours a day harms even if you exercise — but 2–5 minute walking breaks every half hour cut post-meal glucose peaks 20–30% and blood pressure 3–4 mmHg, and enough movement offsets the sitting risk.

First step today
Today: set a 30-minute timer and walk for 2 minutes at every ring — 10 after lunch.
How
A timer every 30 minutes: 2–3 minutes of walking, 10 squats, stairs, calls standing. A 10-minute walk after meals is the most valuable. A standing desk in alternation (not all day standing). Raising daily activity to 60–75 minutes fully offsets 8 hours of sitting.
Evidence
Ekelund 2016 (meta-analysis, n=1,005,791): 60–75 minutes of daily moderate activity eliminates the excess mortality of 8 hours of sitting. Duran 2023 (crossover RCT): 5 minutes of walking every 30 minutes –58% glucose peak, –4/–4 mmHg blood pressure; 1 minute hourly isn't enough. Dempsey 2016: in diabetics, active breaks improved the whole-day glucose curve.
