Shingles vaccine cuts dementia 20% — a natural experiment

Who, how long

282,541 older adults in Wales; eligibility decided by birth date (2 Sept 1933)

What they found

Those born a week after the cut-off (eligible) had 20% fewer dementia diagnoses over 7 years — a quasi-randomised design, hence near-causal.
Caveat

Concerns the old live vaccine (Zostavax); Shingrix data are still accumulating, but point the same way.
