SSaSS: potassium-enriched salt substitute cuts mortality 12% in 21,000 people

Who, how long

20,995 adults with prior stroke or hypertension aged 60+, 600 Chinese villages, 4.7 years

What they found

Replacing 25% of table salt with potassium chloride gave –14% stroke, –13% major cardiovascular events, –12% all-cause mortality; hyperkalaemia didn't rise.
Caveat

A high-salt (11 g/day), rural Chinese population; kidney patients were excluded — potassium can be dangerous for them.
